The Annual NU Crew & BCRF Alumni Row

Background Information

The Alumni Row & Intra-Crew Races is intended to be a fun way to bring together NU Crew alumni and current team members while raising funds to address specific financial needs of the team.

This year’s Alumni Row & Intra-Crew Races is dedicated to raising money to help defray the cost of protecting and preserving various assets which are critical to the team’s success, specifically the boats, truck and trailer. The need to raise money for what is being called the Asset Preservation Fund has arisen from a number of factors, including a continuing trend of reduced financial support by the University.

To read a more detailed description of the financial challenges faced by NU Crew today please take a look at the "Financial Hurdles" synopsis below.

Moving on from administrative issues, we're also pleased to present to you a piece from men's team head coach Aaron Zdawczyk and BCRF director Mark Klitgaard about the team's current place in the rowing world and the outlook for the future. It's entitled "Understanding the Competitive Landscape for NU Crew" and is also linked to below.

Please note that since this piece was prepared in 2006, recent changes have taken place impacting the overall structure in which club crews compete. Specifically, in January 2008 over 25 club crews, including those at Northwestern, Michigan, Purdue, Ohio State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, Grand Valley State and Virginia, founded the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA), which will hold a championship regatta over Memorial Day weekend. The creation of the ACRA was prompted due to potential rules changes at the IRA which threatened to exclude club crews from participating in the IRA. For more information about the ACRA, please go to www.americancollegerowing.com.
